World’s Most Highly Venomous Animals

Here is list of the worldโ€™s most highly venomous animals, who are capable of delivering enough toxins to kill an adult human with one bite or sting. Here in my list, you will find 12 of the most highly venomous animals on Earth.

1: The King Cobra

Of all the snakes in the world, the king cobra (Ophiophagus Hannah) is one of the most feared. It is already on the dead list of world’s most highly venomous animals. Name “Co-Bra” has been due to its neurotoxin acting upon spinal cord (Co) and Brain (Bra). And with good reason, a single bite from this highly venomous snake can kill an adult human in just a few hours. The king cobra is found in tropical forests throughout Southeast Asia and India. Also, it can grow to be over 18 feet long!

2: The Black Mamba

At number two on my list of top 10 highly venomous animals is the black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis). While it has been reported that black mambas are not as aggressive as other types of snakes, they have a reputation for being unpredictable and very fast. A bite from this highly venomous animal will often lead to death within 30 minutes or less. It is also the fastest snake on earth.

3: The Golden Poison Dart Frog

Golden poison dart frogs (Phyllobates terribilis) live in Central America, South America, and some Caribbean Islands. Their poison contains batrachotoxin which acts on humans like a nerve gas causing paralysis by preventing muscles from relaxing. Many jungles native people use their poison on arrow heads and blow pipes to kill their enemies.

4: The Inland Taipan Snake

Native to Australia, the inland taipan snake (Oxyuranus microlepidotus) is considered the most venomous snake in the world. A single bite from this snake can deliver enough venom to kill 100 humans or 25,000 mice! While its venom is incredibly potent, there are only a handful of recorded fatalities from inland taipan bites. This is likely due to the fact that these snakes are very shy and reclusive, so encounters with humans are rare. If you do find yourself face to face with an inland taipan, it’s best to back away slowly and give it a wide berth.

5: The Golden Lancehead Snake

Of all the snakes on this list, the Golden Lancehead Snake (Bothrops insularis) is definitely the most beautiful pit viper species. But don’t let its pretty yellow and brown coloring fool you, this snake is one of the most venomous in the world. Found only on a small island off the coast of Brazil, the Golden Lancehead is responsible for 90% of all snakebite deaths in that country. And with a venom that can melt human flesh, it’s not hard to see why. If you’re ever lucky enough to spot one of these snakes in the wild, be sure to give it a wide berth!

6: The Blue-Ringed Octopus

The blue-ringed octopus (Hapalochlaena) is lives in tide pools and coral reefs of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Do not miss with this little creature as it is really venomous. Blue rings that appear on its body when it is alarmed so that’s why it is called as blue ringed. I am including this octopus in world’s most highly venomous animals. If you see one of these rings, it’s best to back away slowly. However, if the octopus does bite you, get medical attention as soon as possible!

7: The Stonefish

The Stonefish (Synanceia) is found in the coastal waters of Australia and Indonesia. As name indicates it look just like a stone and it is a bottom-dwelling ugly fish that preys on small fish and invertebrates. The Stonefish is one of the most venomous animals in the world, and its venom can be fatal to humans. The Stonefish has 13 dorsal spines that are connected to venom glands. When threatened, the Stonefish will raise its spines and release its venom. The Stonefish’s venom is a neurotoxin that can cause paralysis, heart failure, and death.

8: The Funnel Web Spider

The funnel web spider (Atrax robustus) is native to Australia and is one of the most venomous spiders in the world. The male spider’s venom is 15 times more potent than the female’s and can cause serious illness or death in humans. The funnel web spider is a shy creature that only bites humans when it feels threatened. If you are bitten by a funnel web spider, it is important to seek medical help immediately as there is no known anti-venom for their bite.

9: Death Stalker Scorpion

The Death Stalker Scorpion (Leiurus quinquestriatus) is also considered one of the most highly venomous animals in the world. You can find it in North Africa and the Middle East. The venom of this scorpion is extremely potent and cause death within minutes. Symptoms of a sting from this scorpion include severe pain, swelling, nausea, and vomiting. If you are ever stung by a Death Stalker Scorpion, it is important to seek medical help immediately.

10: Spitting Cobra

The spitting cobra (Naja nigricollis) is one of the deadliest snakes found in Africa. I am putting it in world’s most highly venomous animals list. It can spit the poison from many meters directly into the eyes of its target. There are many varieties of cobras, but all produce a potent venom capable of killing an adult human with just two or three bites. A cobraโ€™s bite will first numb the area around the wound, which may be hard to notice if they have struck near an extremity such as your hand or foot.

11: Box Jellyfish

The Box Jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri) is one of the most venomous creatures on earth. You can find it in tropical waters around Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The Box Jellyfish has a sting that can kill a human within minutes. There is still no antidote for the venom, and it is fatal in almost all cases. It is loaded with thousands of cells called nematocysts (stinging cells). The sting of this jelly fish is one of the most painful stings on earth.

12: Brazilian Wandering Spider

The Brazilian Wandering Spider (Phoneutria) venom is highly toxic and can cause serious health problems, including death. You can see this spider in tropical and subtropical regions of South America including Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela. It is a nocturnal creature that often hides in dark places during the day. The spider’s venom is powerful enough to kill a human within minutes. So, definitely it completes my list of world’s most highly venomous animals.
