10 of the Ugliest Animals in the World
There are many beautiful animals in the world, but there are also many ugly ones. You’ll learn about some of the oddest animals on Earth through this list of the ten ugliest, as well as why some people find them so repulsive, and others find them so fascinating. You might be shocked to learn that some of your favorite zoo or ocean animals are listed among the ugliest creatures on the planet! So, let’s dive into 10 of the ugliest animals in the World.
1: Star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata)
Star-nosed mole (Condylura cristata) is a tiny, pink animal and is found in moist lowland forests and wetlands throughout Canada and the northeastern United States. With eyes towards the top of its head and 22 fleshy appendages ringing its snout, it has one of the strangest appearances of any animal in North America. The weird creature uses its touch-sensitive appendages to comb the water for insects in an effort to locate sustenance. Its nose is just like a star and it’s disgusting too. No doubt star nosed mole is included in my list of 10 of the ugliest animals in the world.
2: Horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus philippinensis)
Southeast Asia is home to the horseshoe bat species. It may be found from Vietnam through Thailand and is one of the uglier animals on this list. The only thing about this creature that a number of species represent a reservoir for SARS-related coronaviruses. Data clearly suggests that they are reservoirs for SARS-Corona virus. In some areas, horseshoe bats are important to people as a food source, a disease source, and a source of traditional medicine. They are known as “horseshoe bats” because the front of the nose-leaf resembles and that’s why it is named after a horseshoe.
3: Warthog (Phacochoerus africanus)
Most hated and also included in my list of 10 of the Ugliest Animals in the World is the warthog, a kind of wild pig that is found throughout Africa. It has a head that is crimson and two tusk-like protrusions that resemble warts. These tusks, which can reach a length of around three feet, give rise to the moniker “warthog.” A white stripe runs down the back of their brownish coat. They are fast, they are aggressive and disgusting too.
4: Aye-aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)
The aye-aye is a lemur species native to Madagascar that has rodent-like teeth and long, thin fingers. It has the highest ratio of eye-to-body size of any mammal. Although the aye-aye is listed as endangered, it still faces numerous threats to its survival. These threats include habitat destruction, bush meat hunting, and traditional medicine. It is well known by its middle long finger which it uses for tapping the skin of tree to find out beetle grubs and then take them out and eats them with yum.
5: Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus)
There are many ugly animals in the world, but few are as well-known as this monkey. The proboscis monkey has a long nose that it uses to find food. Male proboscis monkeys have larger noses than female proboscis monkeys. They are residents of Indonesia and Malaysia.
The weird mating system is that female choses to mate with the monkey who is having the biggest nose and she finds him handsome. So, if you were a proboscis monkey, the bigger nose you have more attractive you are. They frequently exhibit aggressive behavior toward humans because they recognize them to be a threat to their territory.
6: Blob fish (Psychrolutes microporos)
One of the most disgusting creatures on our list is the blob fish, which may be found in depths of up to 900 meters (3,000 feet). I am adding blob to my list of 10 of the Ugliest Animals in the World because it does deserve it.
This deep-sea animal can be found close to Tasmania and Australia. The blob fish can reach lengths of up to 12 inches (30 cm). It has a big head and a lower jaw that sticks out and extends over its mouth. It consumes invertebrates like crabs and lobsters, but is best known for its appearance, which is similar to that of an old dishrag mop.
7: Sphynx cat (Felis catus)
Well, you probably cannot think a cat to be ugly. How can a cute kitten be ugly? The Sphynx cat breed, commonly referred to as the Canadian Sphynx, is distinguished by its lack of fur. Hairlessness is a hereditary abnormality that naturally occurs in cats, and the Sphynx was created by selectively breeding these cats and they created an ugly looking monster. The Sphynx cat is one of the nicest, active, energetic, and devoted companions despite their alien-like appearance. These human-motivated, hairless cats desire to impress and cuddle with their owners.
8: Naked mole rats (Heterocephalus glaber)
Sharp incisors and ugly face, one of the ugliest animals in the entire planet is the naked mole rat. In actuality, they are at the top of the list. They have pink skin without fur and resemble a mix between a rat and a mouse. The naked mole rat can only be found underground, where it uses its powerful forelimbs and claws to dig burrows through loose soil. They will kick and bite their attacker when they feel threatened. Female queen uses pheromones in its urine to subdue her workers.
9: Elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris)
The elephant seal is not only one of the largest, but also one of the ugliest, creatures on the planet. These large, eight-foot-long seals, which can weigh up to 1,500 pounds, are typically found on islands off the coasts of Chile and California. When the elephant seal is not underwater, its huge proboscis hangs over its lower lip. When it dives for food, its proboscis aids in breaking through ice on top of sea water. They are deadly and will kill its competitor when it comes to fight for a mate. They will also crush baby pups under their huge body when they are in heat.
10: Monk fish (Lophius americanus)
The Atlantic and Indian Oceans are home to several species of lophiid anglerfishes, also known as monkfish, fishing-frogs, frogfish, and sea-devils. Both jaws are armed with bands of long, pointed teeth that are angled inward, and the large mouth wraps completely around the front of the head. Three lengthy filaments protrude from the center of the heads of some species of Lophius. They really are ugly, and I said yuck when I saw it first time. So, I am adding this fish in my list of 10 of the Ugliest Animals in the World.
